Grow lights, fans and solar panels?

Hello, I've been wanting to get some grow lights so I am no longer a slave to my crowded windowsill and a small fan to help improve air circulation, but I feel very uncomfortable with the prospect of just having them running for many hours each day.

Does anyone have any experience using solar panels to offset the use of the lights and fan?
