Is this too much light???
Default Is this too much light???

Hello everyone,

I'm somewhat new to orchid growing don't know a whole lot, but learning everyday. I recently bought a couple of orchids from my local home center they had them on clearance because they were done blooming, their loss my gain!!, but i want to know if the window i have them in is ok. It's a east facing window and its glass block. I don't want to kill my orchids so any help would be great here are some pics. Also the sun is a little brighter than it looks in the pics. thanks

I would speculate that it's fine - and possibly too little, although phals can do really well under low-light conditions.

An east-facing window is about idea for them, but the two layers of thick glass will reduce the intensity a lot more than will an ordinary window.

Does you camera have a light meter in it? If so you can using it to determine the actual light intensity: Light Intensity Measurement

Also looks like there is some light obstruction outside - maybe some building? you may want to supplement the light with some compact fluorescent.

compact fluorescents are enough to make some of my Phals bloom...
anyway maybe best to check also on some sunny day.
