simple question

I keep my rain water in 12.7 kg kitty litter buckets, anyone have any idea how many liters of water that would be?

from the school days I remember that 1 l of distilled water weighs 1 Kg.

1 gram = 1 ml = 1 cubic centmeter

So, 12.7 kgs = 12,700 grams = 12,700 ml = 12,700 cc's = 12.7 liters

True, but 1kg of kitty litter and 1kg of water are not going to occupy the same volume.

Keltera, It might be easier to measure the amount of water the bucket holds liter by liter or cup by cup.

can't you just put the bucket on a scale? even if it is not 100% accurate it could be close enough.

I guess the most accurate method would be to take a measuring device like a pitcher that you know is a quart or litre or a gallon etc and measure away... that's what I have done with empty drywall compound containers and marked off gallon lines so when I mix "stuff" I know what's what.....

Yeah i think ill have to measure next time i do it, ill use a 2 liter pop bottle to fill it
