Help Pls - Bllra Marfitch Accordian Pleats Male
Default Help Pls - Bllra Marfitch Accordian Pleats

This new Bllra Marfitch growth has been "accordion" pleat wrinkled since it got going. I am trying to understand why this is happening, and seeking a solution. I have several in Onc. Alliance doing the same on new growth. One person told me it could be signs of both over or under watering??
In the pictured plant, you can see the PB is very plump. I have not re-potted since getting it last Sept.

Any input would be most appreciated.

The leaves get pleated due to a lack of water, which can happen if the plant is underwatered, or if the roots rot and can't supply the plant with moisture. This can also be a symptom of a lack of humidity or too little light.

In my experience pleated leaves are usually a lack of water. The one other thing is if the plant has been in a tight situation and the leaves are mechanically bent. I would check the roots. The color looks good on the emerging leaves so it appears light is OK. When did you repot last? Could be old medium. If the roots are good and the medium is good, I would look at humidity as well. and just keep an eye on the plant.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I figured from what I had read that the pleats meant a lack of water, but I'm cautious about over watering during winter. I just re-potted and found that the plant appeared to have been potted up from a 3 1/2 or 4 to a 6" pot - there was the original root ball surrounded, but not expanded into, the additional mix. I sized down the pot to keep her snug. The roots looked good overall, but it appeared to be old mix. Guess I'll re-pot the several other Onc.'s who are pleating as well.
