I've been there. You just have to dig in and try to remove all the old media. Roots will break, but it will recover.

i am a spag-grower, so there i cant give my to dime - but i also grow in terracotte pots, and everytime i repot i brake the pot so i dont hurt the roots - remember that terracotta pots er good as long as they are unglazed and dont get to cool - the pot helps root breth and dry out quicker! but the get quite cold!

I had that happen to a large Phrag, growing in S/H in a 'large' pot from Ray. The only thing I could do was cut the pot, bit by bit, into small pieces until I could remove the plant. The plant never missed a beat. I re-potted it into a waste basket until spring when I could split it up and re-pot. LESSON: Never allow a plant to get that overgrown........I'm a slow learner.

Good luck with re-doing your plant. It sounds like you have a strong plant there. It should survive the re-potting.
