A purchased a "rescue" phalaenopsis about a month ago...it was a bad move...at the time I did not know to inspect it well...a few days later I noticed this white "lint"...didn't know that "lint" was Mealy bugs....not wanting to put my other 'chids at risk I quarantined this plant (as well as a couple of others, also "rescues")...I first used alcohol on the "lint" and after a trip to Lowes where I purchased a recommended spray from the "Garden expert"....I treated the plants with the spray and re-potted (about two weeks ago)...two of the plants had leaves that yellowed and then dropped...this left one plant with no leaves; however, this plant does have a flower spike and it appears to still be growing.
ya, dont buy sick plants....lmao.....but be sure to spray every week for mealies for at least three weeks then once a month thereafter....probably the one without leaves will die soon, sorry, but no leaves no photosynthesis, and no photosynthesis, no life....so the spike probly wont have a chance to mature....buy healthy plants from small growers and dont support the box stores by buying there.....
