Default What A Disappointment

I know I should always be thankful for what I have but these two have been a major disappointment for me this year.... Not only did the Lycaste not open all the way but it turned brown and I was especially careful with the water this year. And the Phal, while very pretty, had only a few buds and most of them blasted!!!!!

Looks like a problem with humidity. Not sure. Have you checked?

I'm so sorry Doc. The phal flower that opened is beautiful.

I can see how disapointing that would be! They both look like they would be beautiful if only things would go right. Do you have enough air movement for your 'chids?

My humidity runs between 50% ~ 65% in the winter. Fall and spring 70% and up... I know the bud blast may be due to swings in the temperature... 'cause sometimes it ill get cold and with the fans blowing the cold air around....

For those of you who didn't catch last year's bloom so you can see why this was a real disappointment, here is last year's performance....

as far as the lycaste. those pusedobulbs look way to dehydrated. Not enough water by the looks of it. I try to maintain a humidity level around 75%-90% at all times. If you look at your previous year blooms the bulbs dont appear to be as shrivled

I have a problem sometimes with too much water and almost lost it to rot... so I tend to keep it on the dry side when I don't see good growth. But I know the bulbs are too shriveled. Thanks
