Heat-Loving Orchids?
Default Heat-Loving Orchids?

This summer I'll have a cooler running in my greenhouse which should hopefully keep it a lot cooler(its not a large greenhouse, 6x6). Last year it was a disaster!
Anyways, I wouln't be surprised if temperatures still got up to 90F occasionally. Are there any orchid species that particularly like the hot, humid conditions of a greenhouse?

Thanks!
Andrew

P.S. First post.

Vandas, Phals, many Angraecoids like Aerangis, Angraecum, though there are a few that prefer intermediates. Mottled and green strap leaved paphs like it warmer. Many Encyclias and Brassavolas like it warm. Leptotes and Macodes. Reaching 90 on occasion isint bad at all, given the shade and air circulation are increased during these hotter periods.

Be careful with growing jewel orchids at this temperature. My friend lost almost whole his collection of jewels last summer and ventilation didn't help. I'd go for vandas and phals.

Vanda's and Angraecum would be my choices for warmer temp growing. Good air circulation with the humidity will keep it a few degrees cooler, possibly keeping a fan close to the cooling system will help keep the temp at an overall degree verses cooler closer to the unit and farther into the greenhouse the warmer.

Thanks for all the replies! I'll definately see about getting a fan in there.
I picked up a very stunning Oncidium(unknown ssp.) at a street fair while on vacation in southern California. The greenhouse could use a bit more color, so one thing lead to another and I ended up here.

I'll go post some pics in a little while.

Thanks,
Andrew
