Default how to determine foot candles with digital camera?

i saw in a book i was flipping through that you can use a digital camera to find out the foot candles or lumens.

any aditional info is welcome!

My camera shows fstop and exposure so I just set ISO to 100, make sure white fills the whole frame and then calculate using this

I think the light meter is more accurate, more easy to use and it doesn't cost a lot. I've bought one and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks so much Elena for the link! I read in Gordon's Orchid book about using a light meter but the information was back in 1985.

I did that for a minute last year. A Wikipedia article (on "footcandles" I think) had a table showing the relationships between Fstops, ISO speed, shutter time, and footcandles. I was able to make it work and get accurate measurements.

Then I got a light meter.
