I got into orchids about 3 years ago with a couple that were bought for my birthday. Had no idea how to care for them. Both were phalenopsis. So how could I go wrong? lol. One died pretty quickly from overwatering, the second lasted for about a year until I repotted it and moved and then 6 months later it was gone too. Next birthday comes around and mom buys me another. Here we go again, killing another orchid. Around same time I started dating a guy who had a ton of orchids and I attached onto him pretty quick and now I still have that orchid from my birthday last year. Its doing great and reblooming now along with 30 other acquisitions. Right now I am worried about a dendrobium I have that is losing its leaves but I repotted it and will see how things so. So far not a high death list but I am in orchid fever and having a hard time resisting trying harder types of orchids.

Some dens are deciduous, some just loose leaves easily and still live. Nice to have a friend that grows orchids to help you :) So far I have not killed any orchids and I have about a hundred. I have one that I have been trying to save for a year and I think it may die. It is a very small catt hybrid seedling I got off Ebay :(

Orchids are tough plants. I didn't manage to kill any of mine so far, but there are 2 plants worrying me: an Ascocenda and a Cambria orchid - they are not happy at all with what I'm providing. I'll probably change their conditions a bit in the following days.

None yet, but I haven't been doing this very long...

Meh, I dried out two catts so badly they couldn't recover, lost a couple of phals to a cold garage, fatally cooked a couple of Cambrias, and scorched a dozen den phals, some almost to death, but they recovered.

Nearly lost two den nobiles to rot, possibly from overwatering, but I managed to save plenty of cuttings that are doing well.

One cymbidium died of a 'what the heck?'

I haven't been doing this long enough to chalk up a really impressive kill list yet.

There's plenty of time tho...

I've often claimed that even though I wasn't very successful at blooming my orchids, at least I didn't kill a lot of them. The other day I was looking in my jar of used labels for a label I could reuse. Wow! There were a lot of labels in that jar that had been removed from pots of deceased orchids. I have been seriously overstating my successes. As they say, "the older I get, the better I was."

I've killed plenty but don't have a count. Paphiopedilums fear me especially. I am making Dendrobiums less nervous than I used to.

With online forums, numerous clubs across the country, and other advice online, killing orchids is more difficult than it used to be 30+ years ago when I started this hobby.

I've had my first batch of orchids ~around 10 yr ago, they died in my parents' care after I've left home, lol

Now I'm just get back to the hobby for a month, some of my orchids' growing but some look less happy. I'll see how many I'll kill in my first year re-enter the hobby...
