It is a learning experience. Now a days so much information is just a few ket strokes away. If only it was so easy 34 years ago....

Still knocking more off, but fewer than before.
Recent hits...
Tolumnia Bahamensis
Oncidiun Floridanum
Cyrtopodium Punctatum (I replaced the with a specimen)
and 2 of my 4 phals are near deaths door. They are actually perking up but I know as soon as our summers heat comes along, they're toast

When I went through my first orchid crazed buying spree, I killed about 5 phals. Most from root rot since they were packed in moss and the others to crown rot. A few Catts and Dens from lack of light and underwatering. Tolumnias from scale and oncidiums from sunburn. I have learned so much from those plants but it still makes me feel bad that they died. So now I try to rescue any that I can, trying to even the score.

Whether you realize it or not, you are learning about phals. Don't give up. You are acquiring knowledge about orchids. Carol

I have killed multitudes
This is a great topic. I can finally brag. I have killed thousands of orchids in my orchid career. Disas by the dozens, Dend. cuthbersonii by the score, rare orchids by the lot.
But for a glimmer of hope, I will repeat a quote by the wizard of growers;
" The Best Orchid Grower is the grower with the biggest compost pile"

Well I seem to be one of the few orchid fetishists who doesn't raise fish. The only corals I've killed have been from tripping over them with my flippers when I was trying to snorkel! They got me back though- scratched me up but good.

A mentor once told me that you're not a real orchid grower until you've killed your share. To prove his point, he (proudly) shows his collection of a half dozen (+) coffee cans filled to the brim with plastic tags from his dead plants alongside his 3000 + living plants.

I've killed a den(overwatering) 3 phals(overwatering) and a vanda (cold) but amazingly I didn't kill my first ever orchid, it is a white phal NOID that just finished blooming! I think killing a few is part of figuring out the hobby!
O and I have saltwater tanks too! i havn't killed any corals personally.. I blame it on the hair algae!! lol
