Blooming Schomburgkia thomsonianum
I have had a plant of Schomburgkia thomsonianum in a wooden basket for a four years now without successfully blooming it. This miniature species in the genus Schomburgkia looks healthy - many plump psudobulbs (maybe 10-12) and several new growths every year. I have it hanging up near the glass of my intermediate-temperature greenhouse. This species is native to the Cayman Islands that has mainly low vegetation (I never saw a real forest on Grand Cayman when I visited there a dozen years ago). Bright sunlight would seem to be the natural environment for this species. Does it need a dry rest period? What else should I do to bloom this plant?
