Talking New Cambria brought in Ikea

Hi everyone,
Went shopping the other day with the wife and spotted this little beauty. I could not resist and had to buy it.

Anyone know anything about this Cambria orchid? i been doing some research and the Cambria seem to be very similar to phalaenopsis orchid in terms of taking care of it, Is this correct? Also when I buy orchids from supermarkets and places like Ikea I have learnt the hard way to always check the medium. I think that this medium is ok. Thinking of replacing the medium after flowering. What do you guys think?

Hi Carlos,

I don't think I would have been able to resit that either.

I bought a Cambria recently and I've been told that Cambria is a general name used for all complex Onc Alliance intergenerics.

Mine turns out to be more acurately a Colmanara but I don't think yours is the same. Yours has much larger flowers.

I think you should be OK to leave that until it has finished flowering to repot. It's difficult to say though, there have been a load of Onc Allicance orchids coming out of the Netherlands which have a horrid mass of rotten moss at the center where you can't see it. At least on yours there is no sign of Oasis foam in the bottom which both myself here in the UK and Nicole in the Netherlands have seen (as well as the rotton moss on the same plant.

As you have a lot of good looking roots arround the outside I would be inclined to leave it for now, but repot as soon as it is done flowering.

I'm still unsure on general care for any Onc Alliance orchid as I've only recently started buying them. Hopefully someone else can help us both with that.

That's a beauty Carlos. I think your plant is fine, be careful on the watering until you repot... as Rosie said, there is a lot of nasty potting going on with many of the Cambria's that come from the Netherlands.
Yesterday I was in a shop and saw it again. People apparently lifted the plant by the bulbs and it became unpotted. Roots seemed ok, but when I pulled on them the velamen came of. These again had severly shriveled pseudo bulbs. There was one that had very plump pb's an was firm in it's pot...
