The use of moisture meters lets you know exactly when you need to water. The two probe electronic moisture meters use an electronic pulse between the probes to measure moisture. This is a very accurate way of finding out the moisture content. The digital moisture meters are typically more expensive then the analog moisture meters, but digital is more accurate.
I never had any luck with moisture meters, because there is too much air between the bark particles in most mixes for them to pick up any moisture. Mind you, I never invested in a really good one.

An accurate electronic/digital moisture meter typically costs between $30 and $60. That is the price of an orchid. There are some out there that do measure in bark. If you look under orchid moisture meter you should find something you like.
