Some help with my little Onc.

First off, it's been awhile since I've logged onto the OB, and I'm realizing how much I missed it.

I've posted about this Orchid before. It's Onc. Twinkle...

I decided I wanted to do an early transplant on it just to see how the rootmass was doing. So many new roots, it's fantastic! I'm getting new psuedos and new foliage, but when I was pulling it out of its pot, I noticed that some of the older, smaller bulbs have some sort of hole like brown I'm not sure what. Unfortunately I can't post any pictures because my camera is not cooperating. I'll do my best to describe them. They are two bulbs in particular, one is about 1/4 of an inch in width and the other is about 1/2 inch. The "holes" come up from the bottom and in toward the center. Very brown/taupe. My guess would be that it is rotting, but the plant is doing so well! Each bulb only has one leaf. I've already repotted the orchid, but I'm wondering if I should some how remove these bulbs, or just see what happens.

What do you guys think?

To me, the description itself isn't ringing any bells that cry out a dead give away as to what your situation really is.

However...

From what I do gather from your description, I'm making the assumption that the 2 pseudobulbs you're referring to are the 2 smallest pseudobulbs out of the whole lot.

Now correct me if I'm wrong...

But the same 2 pseudobulbs you're describing still have leaves on them, correct?

If not, then please do mention so. As it would offer some insight as to what is happening.

Anyways...

I'm assuming that the description you provided is of those two pseudobulbs dying of old age.

Older pseudobulbs do turn yellow, shrivel up and die. It's just natural.

Without a picture, I can't be more definitive about the advice I'm giving. Do be aware that I'm at the moment giving you an opinion on what the matter may be, given the description you've provided.

Should it be that the 2 older pseudobulbs are dying of old age, I'd let them run their course and transfer all the nutrients they have to offer to the newer pseudobulbs.

After they have dried out completely you may then remove them.

King,they are the two smallest out of the bunch, as well as the oldest (as far as I know)

They each have one leaf attached.

Thanks for your insight. I'm going to just let the plant run the course and hopefully it's nothing that'll spread. I've just never seen holes (more like craters) on bulbs before. If I can get my camera up and running I'll definitely post some pics.

I'll give you the other possibility...

They could be made by burrowing insects.

Like I said, I'm not 100% certain.

Well the "craters" are about the width of an electrical cord...

I looked around for pests and couldn't find anything, but I'm gonna keep my eyes on it.
