NoID Paph. - Orchid Board

My first Paph - bought yesterday as a little New Year present to myself.

Haven't repotted it yet, as I thought I'd better find out about how to best care for it before I start messing with it.

Currently it's in bark, and as well as a nice big fat flower to enjoy there is also some new growth going on. My intention would be to repot it in bark unless anyone would suggest otherwise. I intend to keep it in the same room as my phals, which probably isn't the warmest place in the house when the heating is off, but is west facing and gets shaded sunlight in the afternoon.

Don't know how long it's been in bloom, but I'll enjoy what I have of this flower! Looking at the photos I can see some damage to the petal on the right... hopefully mechanical??

Any advice wholeheartedly welcome!

This looks very much like a Paph. Winston Churchill and definitely dominant if crossed with something else. I've been wanting one of these for so long. Yours is gorgeous!! I believe you want to keep this wetter than you would for Phals, using some spaghnum or CHC in the next mix.

Judging by the top surface of the medium and the pot size, I'd question whether you need to repot that at all. Once it is done blooming, pull the root ball out of the pot and check, before proceeding.

I would agree with Ray. Let it flower, then take a look at the roots afterwards, but if the bark is not broken down you can probably leave it as it is for a while.

I did that with my first Paph which came in quite large fresh bark. It's grown no end since then (although no flowers yet... but I've had it less than a year).

The bark looks ok - better than what some of the Phals have been potted in, so I'm happy to just enjoy it for now, and sneak a peak later!
