kaitala...I was at the Philly show and saw your orchids there! Great growing! An inspiration to all us beginners!

Congrats on the ribbons and the success with your orchids!

When I started growing orchids I knew practically nothing. Like you, I purchased a few "rescues" from the Lowe's clearance cart (I think a lot of beginners do!). They were in pretty sad shape - 2 phals in one small pot and a phal-type dendrobium, all with barely any good roots. Three years later, these orchids are some of my prettiest and most reliable bloomers!

Thanks! I'm really enjoying them, and acquiring more here and there, some nicer specimens. I still can't help cruising through the "adoption center" everytime I go to the big box stores, though!

I did this just yesterday! I shouldn't because I'm pushing the limits on my growing area, but I figure I can always make room for just one more.

I did it again too! Picked up a harlequin phal at lowes for $1. Even still had a bud on it. It's trying to bloom, and has created more buds since getting it out of the evil packing of sphagnum.

I just started a month ago with $1 rescues from Lowe's!

I'm just a beginner myself but I still go by the clearance bench at Lowe's. Sometimes I find some orchids in very good condition.
