I've only grown a Bifrenaria tyrianthina for 5 yrs. Within this period, it has never bloomed.
In the past I have grown wet all year round. While it didn't kill off the plant, it did suffer setbacks. One such problem was that it never spiked. The other more damaging problem was that the new shoots rotted off. Some root damage also occurred.
I was told by Rosim_in_BR that my particular species grows as a lithophyte in a place in Brazil called Minas Gerais in rupicolous fields with no trees and short scrub often exposed to full sun. From what I was told, Bifrenaria tyrianthina needs to be wet in the growing season (late spring through mid-fall) and dry during the dry season (I occasionally water it a little whenever I remember it, I let it go bone dry for weeks without a problem). And yes, the pseudobulbs do get wrinkled.
However, I've never grown Bifrenaria aureo-fulva, so I don't know how much of what I mentioned applies to this species.
"Rosim_in_Br" usually posts in the Orchid Alliance section of the OB. Hence why I suggested to repost in the Maxillaria Alliance forum.
