No apology necessary Joe. One of the cool things about this forum is the fact that we all (seem to) feel free enough to discuss stuff openly, clearing it up for all!

...but it sounds like we're all agreed that unless your growing space is totally sealed, trays are virtually worthless.

Hmm, *looks at the evaporation trays he just setup for his two new seedlings that just arrived*...

Darn.

Guess I'll just have to be diligent with misting.

Oh, but maybe we're overlooking the psychological benefit of humidity trays for the plants. Even if it raises the humidity by only .04%, they know I'm looking out for them.

Seriously, one benefit of new tray I bought is that it has a drainage hose, so I can water without removing them from their position on the table.

I guess the general lesson from this thread is that I should buy more orchids? (as opposed to humidity trays . . .)

Now THAT is a useful feature! I have had plans in my head for years for making trays like that myself, as carrying 175 plants to the sink to get watered gets tiresome. But, I've never done it. I wish I could find trays like yours for sale!

That is a great point in their favor right there.

many thanks Ray
Do It Yourself = more money saved = more money for baby orchids

Did anyone play that video game Tetris in the late '80's early '90's? Sometime I feel like I'm having a Tetris flashback, after watering, putting the plants back on the table in just the right direction.

Tetris, that's a great description of it!
