Need Help with a Phalaenopsis
Default Need Help with a Phalaenopsis

I recently bought my first Phalaenopsis orchid. The first month I had it did great. We are currently stationed in Japan and was unable to read any care instructions because they are all in Japanese. I looked on line and have followed the care, but in November we had two weeks where the heater did not work. The house probably got down to 50 degrees. After that the plant lost all it's flowers, about 20 flowers, with a day and half and two leaves on the very bottom turned yellow. I was watering it about every 7 days and not letting it sit in Water. It is in a place were there is light but not a lot, in fact it is kinda dark there. Huminity here is between 40% and 90%. Please someone help. This plant is super pretty and I really don't want to kill it.

Hi Krissty and welcome to the Orchid Board.
The drastic temp drop may have caused your flowers to drop and the yellow leaves at the bottom may be normal. What is your phal planted in and have you checked the roots for rot? Can you post a picture?

Here are some pictures. The roots are green for the most part but do have some dark spots. After I took it out the moss like stuff that it is planted in was super wet. One more leave was yellow today and another is turning yellow... I think I over watered it. Is there any hope for it?

there is always hope untill they are brown a dry.

just be paitent and try to not over water after you get back in its pot.you never know the old spikes may well send out new buds.

It takes a little time to learn not to water them like a tropicl plant and to let them dry out more than you think is right at first.LOL at least it did for me.
