glad you were able to ID the plant. the number on the tag is not a patent number. only the nursery that produced it would be able to tell you what it means, but usually such numbers are used to identify a particular lot.

Your plant is probably Odontonia Esoteric, a hybrid of Odontoglossum Red Nugget x Miltonia Hawaiian Waters. "Martian' is the clonal epithet name of the actual plant that was mericloned ... hence, I think, the patent pending. The 'R565' may indicate the plant from which the tissue for cloning was derived.

Thanks cneos! I think that helps with the care I need to give this chid. So far it's doing well, but when I looked up the requirements for the two chids you mentioned, I didn't realize it needed this much humidity. Some of last years leaves are pleated, but I thought I just needed to get the watering right. Now I realize it was humidity as well. There is no pleating on the brand new leaves--coincidentally we got a humidifier this winter--that might be it! Do you think I need to be concerned about salt and mineral buildup? I use MSU with rain water at the recommended dosage; I water maybe every 5 days now as the medium dries out faster, I use MSU every other watering and flush with plain rain water every other watering.

salt build-up can occur in many environments ... make sure that you FLUSH the pot thoroughly every few weeks.
Home humidifiers are also notorious for leaving a salt/mineral deposit on the leaves. I use a special humidifier conditioner that seems to help. When I show plants that have the residue on the leaves, a milk/lemon juice polish shines them up nicely.
