Should I mount my BLC? Male
Default Should I mount my BLC?

Hi guys, my missus recently bought a BLC "Toshi Aoili" from a local orchid show, and I'm not really sure what to do with it. It's currently growing in a mix of pinebark and perlite, with a piece of styrofoam in the base, I'm assuming to hold the stake which it's attached to.

The questions I have are:

Should I mount this plant; how do they grow mounted?

What kind of light requirements does it have? I'm used to growing dens and vandas, and they get full sun with some shade, what do BLC hybrids like? I live in tropical Australia, we get days of about 100 degrees and about 90% humidity with monsoonal rain for half the year, then days of 64-82F during the cooler months with less humidity and no rain, but of course I water.

Any help would be appreciated guys!

First of all, it is Toshi Aoki (there is no Toshi Aoili). Secondly, the brassavola in its background is now considered rhyncholaelia, adn the laelia is now cattleya (just LOVE those taxonomists!), so its full mane is Ryncholaeliacattleya Toshi Aoki.

I would think it would do well with light levels similar to most dens.

In nature, catts all live in trees too, so if you can handle the watering such culture demands, mounting should be no issue.

Haha, bloody taxonomists! Thanks for the correction mate, it came listed as "Aoili", so now I know why I couldn't find photos of it online. Water is no issue, I give them all a hosing every morning, and they get plenty of rain too.
