i bought a little cattleya orchid today from lowes that looked good.
Well, i thought it did. it's VERY dry and apparently has been for awhile. leaves very flimsy (although still nice and green) and lots of dead, dry roots. it has 2 small new pseudobulbs forming though.
I watered it and put it in a bigger pot with rocks to stabilize it for now...should i keep it in more shade and mist????
Orchids do fine in low light. Light levels are what is necessary to enable an orchid to flower. This is a young plant and can not flower for 1-3 years so low light is fine. It allows the plant to conserve moisture and less risk of overly drying out.
thank you so much. i think it's gonna be absolutely fine but i don't want to kill it. i'll put it in lower lighting for now and, as it grows, i'll move it to a brighter spot to flower (when it does!)
