Paph Maudiae is both an individual hybrid and a group of hybrids. The group of hybrids made with species from section Barbata of subgenus Paphiopedilum, which resemble the hybrid Paph Maudiae (which is callosum x lawrenceanum), is named after that hybrid.

Just using an orchid's alliance to gather cultural information is in my opinion too generalized as well.

Take into consideration how large the Dendrobium alliance and Oncidium alliance really is.

The Dendrobium alliance does not just contain plants from the genus Dendrobium (which is already a large genus to begin with), it contains many other genera as well. A few being:

Cadetia
Dockrilla
Eria
Flickingeria.

The Oncidium alliance is even worse! It not only contains plants from the genus Oncidium (again ginormous genus). But a few genera include:

Miltonia
Miltoniopsis
Psygmorchis
Rodriguezia
Sigmatostalix

And this is just a few I can remember!

Yes you can't use just the alliance to assume cultural requirements for the reasons you stated. You really can't even use just genus. You have to know, at a bare minimum, the group of species or hybrids within the genus (eg section Spatulata in Dendrobium or subgenus Parvisepalum in Paphiopedilum), and it's best to know the exact species to give the best care possible.
