I have several orchids, mostly phals and dendrobiums given me as gifts. Both varieties are now developing heavily rooted "babies" on their upper stems, one phal just below a bloom!!
Should I break off these new plants and pot them, or should I cut the stems of the parents on either side of the new plant, and try to propagate them that way?
Once the roots are about 3 inches long take a sharp sterilized knife, sterilize between plants as well, and cut them off where they are attached to the mother plant. Don't break them off and try not to damage the roots. Dust the cuts with cinnamon and wait about a day (24 hours) before you pot or mount the keikis.
