what is this growth on my Dendrobium Hamana Smile?
Have a Dendrobium Hamana Smile that has a lot of D. kingianum in it and some other australian Dendrobiums.
left it outside the summer and now I see these new growths on top of the cane. is it a keiki? there are 2. does it mean too much fertilizer?

They're keikis.
I don't think it's fertilizer related.
Other than having to grow this outdoors during the summer. What were the conditions like?
Light
Temperature
Humidity
Use of Media
etc.

I revised my response. Please check it again and see if you can answer the questions much more specifically.
We'll see what's up.

Potted? Mounted?
What is not watering too much? Once a week? Twice week? Rough estimate please.

it is potted with bark. watered once a week sometimes twice. it rained a bit but being on the fore escape there is some shelter from rainfall.

Probably could've been watered a bit more.
I suspect that's part of the reason why it threw out a keiki.
If it wasn't repotted into fresh media, and the media was breaking down, that could've been it too.

If I remember correctly, I had made some comments about this plant. See if there's anything there I didn't cover here.

Thanks. maybe could have watered a bit more - hope it won't affect the eventual blooming. anyway plant looks healthy to me...
how often would you water in the summer if you were in the Northeast? ballpark idea? 2 / 3 times a week?
