Hey King... Vons and Albertson's are part of the Safeway chain. Just in case you didn't know. I don't know why they call it something else over there.
As far as the phal.. I know how you feel. Next time just ring your groceries through the self check out and plantnap it! LOL.
Oh, and having been a retail manager for a few years, I can tell you that even though there are corporate policies in place for that, it really depends on the manager and how you ask for it, they bend the rules quite a bit to make the shopper happy. Maybe you just caught the manager on a bad mood that day....
Similar story.... I was at lowes last year and I noticed that all of the phals had missing blooms/or partially torn blooms.... The birds that live in the store ate all of the blooms!!!! So I called the manager over and asked her if I could get a discount. She said I could have any of the ones without any blooms at all for $5. So I called a couple of friend to ask how many they wanted... I ended up with 7 phals in my cart. There were some bloom remnants left so I could tell the color and such. Some were just a surprise. After i got home I noticed that the receipt was only $25... The girl only rung me up for 5. I cut the spike back a few inches and all of them rebloomed within a month. My friends and I were very happy.
