Looks like you found the problem just in time! A few more weeks and the plant would have died. I don't know if all the Nelly Islers in our part of Europe come from the same dutch grower, or if all growers have the same practice, but it's disgusting. If people aren't aware of the sphag core, death of the plant (within matter of weeks) is certain. Maybe that is their intention so people will buy more. All the same, that practice is dishonest IMO.

Well, there was a very small spaghnum core in the center. Not much but it was at the center at the bottom of the plant.

I have cleaned all the roots and rinsed them with water. Most of the roots have lost their protection but just like with orchids I'm quite sure it won't kill her.

I'm going to repot her now in the same pot with new mix.

So she has been given a new mix. Probably will have to give water tomorrow before she starts to wrinkle even more.

@Camille: I suppose the labs grow them in spaghnum and then sell them to the growers. They take the tiny plant and put it in a big pot with bark, after a month or 8/10 they are big enough to sell.

I think my roots were in worse shape so I bet you've caught it time. I've just had a look at mine and I can see some new roots getting dug in... there's hope!

I agree with you Camille about the growing conditions... it's so sad when they look so healthy to have them decline so rapidly.

Well, she seems to be doing just fine now .
Sadly, the flowers are at the end of their life (at least she stays to live)

As for watering, I suppose I should give water (with my normal fertilizer "Orchid Focus - Grow" using the table on their site) when the mixture is almost dry and not let it completely dry?

Yeah - that's great. You must have done something right!
Well these flowers may be over, but hopefully there'll be plenty more in the future!

Sorry - I wouldn't like to comment on watering habits as I'm still just learning with mine, but I expect someone will help you out with some advice. Nic
