my first question: orange column on a mini phal? Female
Cool my first question: orange column on a mini phal?

hi all! this is my first post, i've just become interested in orchids. so far, this site has been incredibly helpful for me.

so, to the question. the other day i got two mini phals (i at least, i believe they are). on the way home, one took a spill (i cried, believe me). i put the flowers that broke off in a cup of water and they have lasted for several days. i noticed however, that two of the flowers in water have orange spots! only two of them, none of the rest (there are approx. 15). i looked online and i think it's called the column, but i'm not entirely sure.

purely out of curiosity, does anybody know what these mysterious orange spots are?

It's pollen, I think. On your other flowers those spots maybe white as its not been pollinated.

Those are the pollenia. The end of the column must have broken off.

Those two yellow spots on the column are pollinia.

The anther cap fell off during the fall to reveal the pollinia underneath it.

The flowers are not pollinated.
