I've recieved yesterday my B. Nymphopolitanum from schwerter




long time I wanted to start with Bulbos and this was on sale for 8€ so here it's Seems quite populated isnt it?

I'm quite a novice so I'm looking for advices on the colture. I feel comfortable with phals but I'm not any good with any other species so I was wondering if you can give me an advice on watering and maybe the medium, that seems common bark burned down to coal. The plant doesent look much firm on the medium like it was repotted recently.
The plant is getting phals condition in my terrarium.

Bulbos usually don't grow very many roots. If you're growing them potted, they will appear to have weak root growth because of how shallow the roots grow into the media. This is actually how they are.

Phalaenopsis level lights should be fine, but they can take a bit more light.

I prefer to mount my Bulbos because the roots like a lot of air.

They should dry up just a bit before watering again.

This one is related to the more infamous Bulb echinolabium, known to be a stinker. Yours will stink too.

Bulb nymphopolitanum grows intermediate to warm.

I'm now considering to mount it up Should i put any sphagnum in that case? Also should I care about any particular orientation?
Cant wait to see the flower though I'm worried about the smell as the terrarium is sealed all day long and smells can build up pretty badly

Alright LTH, mounting will work very well with Bulbos.

Cork bark works very well. Other types of bark work fine too, it's just gotta be a medium to hard wood that doesn't smell.

When placing moss around the roots, take care not to pack the moss on. A very thin layer of moss covering the roots works better than a thicker layer of moss. By thin layer, I mean as thick as just one strand of sphagnum.

As long as the top surface of the leaves are facing up, that's all you need to be concerned about with the positioning of the plant on the mount.

Bulbos are not like Phals. When a Phal is potted upright, over time, it will lean over like how it would position itself in nature. Bulbos position themselves where the leaves face up to catch the rays of the sun, but the pseudobulbs can ramble all over the place. As long as there is a space for them to climb and there is light in that area adequate enough for them to use, Bulbos will go where ever they please, but the leaves will usually face up (or at least where the light is).
