Cattleyas do not bloom a second time from a single growth. When the blossoms have dropped, you may safely remove the flower stem, but do not cut anything that is green in color. If you prefer, you may leave it alone, as the flower stemm will dry and turn brown, so will be easy to identify.

As to the second question, there is no firm rule on when to water, as the pot, potting medium, light levels, air movement, humidity, and temperature all affect that. A good, general guide is wait for it to dry completely, then water thoroughly.

Hi stapelia, Cattleya Bloom once from the stem and once the flower withered it drops off. What type of cattleya are you HAving? For watering of your cattleya, take caution when the weather is cold water it once every week preferably at noon time. And where do you place your orchid cattleya?

Stapelia, your Engish is fine and welcome to Orchid Board.

As Ray was saying the pot needs to dry out. The best way I have found is to stick your finger in the pot and check. If it feels dry then water it. If it feels wet or damp don't water.

If you can not stick your finger into the mix get a leaded pencil and stick it down in the mix. You can tell if the pencil is wet.

Happy Growing!

Hi stapelia, do not worry cattleya has a very strong growing habitat. I have been dealing with cattleya for years and i have once dumped some ''dead'' cattleya as the whole plant seems brown and dried up, i dumped them down slope need my house. Which was a wet and humid area. Months later, i happened to walk my dog there, and see something familiar.. oh it's my cattleya which i have dumped. Very clearly that new shoots sprouted near it's root tip. Thus i conclude that even if you care lesser for it, it still can survive and grow. You have ample time to learn how to maintain it properly in your region. : ) Silla--glamour

Default Orchids like neglect!

Do not pamper your orchids too much.
They like neglect and they sure get that around here!
