Just got an Angm. Longiscott "OC"-how do I care for it? Female
Question Just got an Angm. Longiscott "OC"-how do I care for it?

While at our local nursery for bird seeds, I found that a beautiful Angm. Longiscott 'OC' superbum x scottianum followed me home I don't imagine it is an unusual plant as it was very reasonably priced (I think at $19.98 ?); and supposedly just arrived from Hawaii just 3 hours before it found me--from H&R Nurseries. Does anyone know what hybrid it is? Is it an Anguloa and something else It is in a small pot looks like lava rock with some moss growing on the top--very root bound, I could hardly remove the tag because of the roots, and there are loads of slim roots growing outside the pot. Some of the lower leaves have black at the tips, but I was assured it was normal damage caused by overcrowding and shipping and that since the top leaves are fine, I shouldn't worry????? I was also told it was bone dry when it arrived at the nursery--it was just watered and misted before I got it. So should I repot, if so in what, and how do I care for it? My other chids are the usual Phal, Onc, Den, Mtdm, Bc, Paph, so this is a first for me—hope it’s not more than I can handle. Since I live in the northeast and don’t have a greenhouse, mounting really isn’t an option for me.

It is a primary hybrid. It just has some typos on the tag. The correct spelling is

Angcm. Longiscott (Angcm. superbum x Angcm. scottianum)

Angcm is Angraecum a natural family not an Intergeneric.

This is a close relative to the Darwin Orchid so famous in the theory of evolution. It is from Madagascar.

It does not require any special care. You can grow it with your Oncidium and Bc.

A bigger mistake than the spelling was the price. I pay more wholesale for these then you paid. H&R grows some terrific orchids but is not that cheap. Enjoy it.

Thanks Jerry, I'm so excited about this orchid! Now that you clarified the family I was able to look it up and get some cultural info. But I still don't know if I should keep it in the the current pot. Does this orchid like being so pot bound? And do I need to mist the roots that are outsidee the pot? Currently they dry out very quickly. I read it likes tree ferm fragments, osmunda, or fir bark but it is in lava rock now and would it resent a change in media? I will be away for 2 weeks the beginning of October, so I really want to make sure I leave it in optimun condition. My son will be taking care of my chids while I will be gone--he only has phals. Thanks again for your response and advise!

what an awesome find! angraecums (or angraecoids in general) are quickly becoming my favorite genus!

i think this hybrid does well mounted. i'm not 100% sure though.
