My cattleya WON"T open.. Is it dead??

Lee, I think you are right... I had to cut it off....
Before I did that I felt the center & it seemed nothing was there & the top of the bloom looked like it was dying just in the last couple days. After I cut it off it looked real mushy ........
That plant has another bloom coming but there are a few black spots on the sheath... Does that mean too much water too??????
