Tindo,
I have seen somewhere photos of vandas grown in plastic bottles with the tops cut off, in semi-hydro - actually growing quite well..
I only have 2 big vandas both in net pots outside and suffering the low humidity and cold nights until I get my lean-to GH in order for winter. The other advanced seedlings are in little pots or mounted but I plan on mounting all of them as it will be easier to water them in the morning on warm winter days and have them dried out by lights out.
I reckon vandas could do real well in a viv but it would have to be one huge motherfracker of a viv to fit it and the flower spikes in!
The other idea that has crossed my mind is a second hand or cheap glass [or whatever they use] shower.. definitely tall enough, with a drain, totally enclosed and you could put a metal halide at the top and big fans.. or you could turn it into a huge viv.. yeah grand ideas if only I was Bill Gates

I've actually played most of those scenarios in my head before. The shower one always ends up with me being kicked in my behind by my family members, as well as the giant viv scenario.
Now the soda bottle idea is coooooool!!!!!!!! Let me give that more thought!

Tin, you could take the vanda into the bathroom but not the shower itself when you shower, just throw your bathrobe on the floor so they don't get a peek!! Floppy

I have always wanted a Vanada, but I cannot commit to something that needs to be misted several times a day.

You could try it in semi-hydro?

Put the parents out on the curb- turn their room into one huge motherfracking walk-in viv!
Here's the link to semi-hydro vandas [and other orchids in semi-hydro]:

Rebecca Tyson Northern in her book 'Home Orchid Growing' the so called Orchid Bible talks most of growing Vandas in POTS with bark as a medium. An excerpt taken from her book "Although vandas can take drier atmosphere than Plalaenopsis, they appreciate a humidity of 40 to 50 percent. In a very damp atmosphere, the plants will be larger and less tough than in a drier environment, although they will grow and flower well with a lower daytime humidity. A mist spray on bright days is beneficial, both to furnish humidity and give water to the aerial roots."
Reading between the lines, I guess if you can grow phals you should be able to grow vandas.
