I sometimes wonder when I read about all the bad roots and bad potting from commercial nurseries.
Do you really think we all just plan on how bad we can be so they die on you. We need to keep the plant healthy since most are not sold in the first year and sit on the nursery shelf for a couple of years before sale.
If they were really potted badly we would soon be out of business.
As to your plant in the first pictures. They are perfectly normal and you should not have done anything. The wrinkling is genetic to the plant and will always look that way. They were perfectly healthy pseudobulbs. Only new pseudoblubls will be smooth and they will shrivel in a year or two.
I can not see the original 'nursery pot' you said was in the larger pot. It may have been the new bio-degradable pots that never need to be removed. Even if it was plastic and left by mistake, the roots had grown around it and it became inert filler and harmless.
When a plant looks good like your first picture you should not worry so much. Orchids do better with some neglect. Too much fussing just causes problems.
But the end result is your plant is very healthy and should just be re-potted.
