Rescued Orchid!! How do I take care of it?? Female
Default Rescued Orchid!! How do I take care of it??

Hi,
When I moved into my new appartment I found an orchid in the trash, it looks fine to me but I don't know what kind of orchid it is or how to take care of it.

The orchid is planted in tree bark, its in flower and I've been giving it a little bit of water every two days.

Please advice what I'm to do. My profile picture is of the orchid I've found.

Thanks

I really can't tell from the photo. Can you take a picture of the plant also and posibly a closeup of the flower?

Wow, how strange, the same thing happened to me. I changed its potting materials to a new one as I did not know how long it had been sitting there. As it is in flower you may want to wait until it loses its flowers before you repot. But it can be useful to see the roots as some might be dying.

Check it over for any infestations, unlikely but possible.

I would buy an orchid feed too. If you can put a picture the more experienced orchidists on this site can identify its specific care needs. It probably would like some bright light but not direct burning hot sun.

Hi Thereze! And Welcome to OB. A picture would definitely be helpful, but if you cant, can you give us an idea of the leaf/plant structure from pictures online or in the gallery. That way we can give better specifics to help out. But a couple of important things... Make sure the orchid is in a pot that drains. This is likely since it's in bark, but be sure that the container doesn't hold sitting water. Also, be careful watering too much, as most orchids prefer water less often, more like once a week, though it will vary by climate. Let us know what you have so we can help out in lighting conditions, watering, and media. Welcome... and beware they can be addicting.

Welcome to Orchid Board

A bigger pic would make it easier to tell what it is. If you have problems posting pics take a look at the link below.

From the picture it looks like it's a Den, maybe an australian type den. But a larger picture would help. As for watering, orchids in bark prefer a soak or heavy watering less often (once the mix dries out almost completely. and it depends on your climate), rather than a little bit of water every 2 days. Roots that always stay wet are more prone to rot.
Once we know what it is, it will be easier to give more specific care instructions.
