Sick Miltoniopsis? Female
Default Sick Miltoniopsis?

I have this miltoniopsis I bought in the spring from Clouds Nursery. When it arrived, it has some spots on it. When I asked the nursery, they told me that sometimes orchids in this family(Oncid.) will spot. They thought maybe it was misted when it was cooler in the greenhouse.

My worry is, it has continued to develop spots(even on the new leaves) and has some yellowish textures ebbed throughout the leaves. The roots are healthy, growing etc.

What do you think?

Try changing out the potting media first. It looks as if it's been in there for a long time.

Fresh media might make it perk up a bit.

If the type of media you have in the pot is working, continue to use that.

It appears that you don't need to move up in pot size. Often times orchids can grow in the same sized pots for years.

Other than that, if you're misting the leaves, try not doing that. Keep the humidity up instead. 60% to 70% is sufficient enough.

What are the temperatures you're growing them in? They're considered intermediate growers. 55 F to 85 F is good enough of a day/night range.

The orchid has perfect growing conditions. It is about 65 at night to 85 during the day. The humidity is 70% at night, around 40% in the mid afternoon. It has already been repotted. I thought of that last month when it looked poorly. All the other Milton. are fine in the room. As I said earlier, it sort of came to me this way, just hasn't ever looked any better.

I am kind of baffled.

See if using isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide will help it out. Try doing it once a day for about a week.

The only other option without using bactericides or fungicides would be 10% bleach solution or baking soda water.
