I happen to love Pleuros. At one point my collection consisted mostly of Pleuros and Bulbos (talk about weird!). But not everyone does.

Often the complaints are that their flowers are too small. Or they're too weird. And my favorite, they look like weeds.

I'm speaking generally, if you know what I mean.

The 1st time I seen it I thought somebody cut a flower and place it on the leaf.

Encyclia (Anacheilum) cochleata and Enc (Anacheilum) radiata are both equally as fragrant as Enc fragrans. Enc cochleata being the more unusual flower.

All the Enc (Anacheilum) species mentioned are easy growers.
It seem like a good choice. I think you from L.A as well right? Do you know any good place to buy orchids?

Well...other than Norman's Orchids. I can't think of any large local specialty orchid nursery that's local that sells both hybrids and species. I have personal issues with them, so I don't go there anymore. If you go there in person, you can choose a good orchid if you know what you're looking for. I don't like dealing with the owner or sister though. His younger brother or employees are fine.

I've always heard of Ontario Orchids, but I've never been there. The city of Ontario is pretty far from where I live, and I believe they deal primarily with hybrids.

There are a few ragtag places, but quality is sacrificed.

Places like Mimosa nursery down in Montebello located along a small street by Whittier Blvd carries the typical hybrids.

San Gabriel Nursery along San Gabriel Blvd has some hybrids too.

Pac 8 Orchids down in Culver City is a specialty orchid nursery dealing with hybrids. They're a small warehouse though, and they're nice enough people. Quality hybrids.

Other than that, I either order on-line, go down to Andy's occasionally, or up to Santa Barbara Orchid Estate.

There's also the Huntington Library orchid show coming up in a couple months in the famous Huntington Library in Pasadena (a little history, the entire city of Pasadena was once owned by an oil baron whose last name goes by Huntington).

Then there's the Fascination of Orchids show in Costa Mesa in the spring.
