Default Orchids in baskets?

Anyone else here plant in baskets? I am not talking about the wooden slat 'orchid baskets' I am talking about wicker, jute & etc... To me it seemed a natural. I buy them cheap at the local thrift stores when I find one I like. My phals seem to like them in particular, I don't have so much experience with the others yet. The air circulation around the roots is excellent in them.

I know that repotting may require basket destruction. Any other caveats I should take heed of?

The only down side I can think of is the total destruction of the basket. I'm sure it makes a beautiful display.

Sounds like a neat idea! Do you have any pics of your chids in baskets? Really interested to see!

Hi Raihana!
I do that same thing! I love it, my babies love it too!
My momma & poppa love pick me up any kind of cute basket findings at garage sales, estates, thrift, etc. And ship them all nearly 1000 miles to me

Hope this link works
This picture is several months old. The roots are now snaking thickly through the basket. She seems to really love it. The medium is mostly orchid bark but I always add a bit of sphagnum to hold a bit more moisture as well since it will dry out VERY quickly... the ventilation is awesome!

I hope to have some newer shots soon. I am looking at cameras now. The children broke my old one
