Default Looking for suggestions

Well I have been a member for almost a year and no post. So I guess I better start.
Well I just picked up a bunch of plants in a trade (orchids, rare bromeliads, and carnivorous plants). One of the orchids is a Variegated vanilla orchid. He gave me three cuttings of it. Also as of right now he is not having much luck with it. He told me to put it in on top of some sphagnum moss (I have a lid on this by the way). To get it to root. Just wondering if this is the right way to go about it.

Well I tried to take some pics of it to show how it looks. All the roots look dead to me and some of the ends of the clippings are black.

Okay thanks for the info. No I am not going to put them in my tanks. The ones you see in the pics are 2.5 gal, they have sundews in them and some blatterworts. Once it gets some roots I am going to put it outside. Thanks again!

Can you get a Vanilla orchid to grow on your house like a vine?

I have no clue on that one. I am sure someone else on here can answer that. I am new to orchids.

Vanilla is a rambling vine and you are indeed lucky if you can grow it outside. I am told it takes many years before it will flower, having never experienced it here in the freezing north! Hand pollination would be the key to produce the seed pods that could be eventually turned into Vanilla beans! Sexy stuff!

Check out these links for more Vanilla info:
