I bought a Dendrobium last week that is growing in sphagnum moss. I read it should be grown in bark mix since Dens need to drain quickly and dry between waterings.
The moss was tightly packed, so I gently pulled some of it out to allow air to the roots. I also moved it from the plastic pot to a same-sized clay pot.
Questions:
1. Should I repot it into bark mix? (I'm concerned it may shock the plant to change from a very moist to a very dry medium.)
2. If I should repot, can I wait until it stops blooming or does it need to be repotted right away?
I repot everything the day I bring it home, this is a personal preference. If your plant is doing ok, you can leave it alone until it drops its flowers then repot. When you do repot into the bark mix, you need to soak the mix overnight before transplanting so you really are not going from moist to dry.

I do as Zoi2 does repotting as soon as I get mine home. If you leave it in moss until it gets done blooming keep in mind that moss stays very wet. So be careful with your watering.
