I have been using it in my misting system. I mix my fertilizer/watering solution with RO water which is essentially same thing. I doubt I would pay much heed to this article as the conditions described in it seem pretty extreme. We cook with and drink RO water exclusively.
Inara - I am familiar with downtown Milwaukee and been there many times. If you use non-softened water (you do not have a water softener) then you should be OK. Only issue would be what minerals are in the water. I went down to our utilities department to get a flier on the water. You are most interested in what process they use to chorinate or purify the water supply. If it is chlorine gas or liquid you are OK. If it is chloromines, however, you need to use RO water or distilled. The chloromines stick around and do not ready gas-out like pure chlorine (that's why some municipalities use it). Swimming pool "chlorine" is an example of the chloromines.
By the way, when you go to most supermarkets, the display of bottled water is usually next to a device where you can fill your own jugs or use there's. This device is usually a Culligan RO unit. That would be RO water.
