Default Storms & Growth

So, this is an off the wall question sort of...
But Latley (the past 4 days) we have had pretty much near constant cloudy weather here and very frequent downpours. I live in north eastern Alabama and keep my Orchids outside, I have 3 Vanda Hybrids, 2 Phallies and a Dendrobium that are doing very well... even moreso lately with the storms...

I have noticed that there has been an explosion in growth suddenly, with all the orchids. One of my phallies alone yesterday I noticed had grown 5 new root shoots OVERNIGHT (they are stubs all around the base comming out more and more), my other Phallie is suddenly growing a new leaf, and more roots, and my dendrobium is growing roots like MAD, also, the Vandas (which are very new) are doing very good too, Im seeing new root growth all over the older roots, new tips are being produced.
and One of my phallies (same one that grew 5 new root shoots overnight is flowing now, only 2 flowers, its already flowered once this year)

... i this typical?

I find it odd... Much like this strange smile thing..

No, not odd at all. All the orchids you mention are from subtropical/tropical Asia where monsoons are seasonal. When it rains in monsoon season, it pours.

Long days, hot weather and lots of water make everything grow.

Thunderstorms generate a lot of nitrogen in the air. That's why, after a storm, everything looks a lot greener. That's because it probably is. That's also why our orchids love it outside.

A few years ago a hurricane blew through when I was far away on vacation. I came home to find that most of my unattended chids had been blown all over the yard. I gathered them up, repositioned them in their original spots, was astonished to see how fast they began to grow.

Rain water is a great medium flush, as well. If the potting medium had a fair level of mineral buildup, the rain would have substantially corrected that, and the plant will take off, accordingly.
