Question Time frame from bud to open bloom?

I just purchased an orchid (Phal) from a local greenhouse about 2 weeks ago. It has 2 good size flower buds and one small new bud. My question is how long b4 the bud opens to a full bloom? I am very excited to see what colour it is.

Hello and welcome to the OB.
You phal will be opening soon. Without a picture it's pretty hard to give you a good estimate, but if it's a large bud it should be any day now.

I added a picture maybe someone might have an idea of the type of phal it is , when I bought it it didn't have an ID stick or name with it.

WOW! A variegated phal. Cool!

Even with that, you may never know the hybrid unless you contact the grower you got it from and ask.

I would speculate those buds are about to open any day.

One thing about variegated phals - they tend to be slower growing and less hardy than most, so treat it accordingly.

Orchid Bride, not sure of it's name but I would expect the larger bloom to be showing in a day or two, usually they open more at night, at least mine usually do. The other bloom should follow within 2 days or so after the first opens. It's really not much to go by there is no blooming pattern as to when they do open but it will certainly bless you with gorgeous blooms.

I suspect that the orchids medium is sphagnum moss, be careful with over watering, will hold moisture.

Many orchid hobbiest repot after new purchase either in bloom or not. It's benefit would be to know what is goin' on with the rooting system. Personally I would use orchid bark with a mix of perilite and charcoal. This you can purchase at any box store or your local nursery.
