Trichoglottis Brachiata question...
Hey Everyone!
I just received this Trichoglottis Brachiata from an online vendor and am really excited to have discovered this wonderful species. I'm happy to report that it is thriving, and there's a keiki starting to grow.
I haven't been able to reach a general consensus from my online research, and have discovered that there's only a few places to look in regard to caring for this plant. I was needing to know their light requirments, as I plan to hang it in its basket from a tree in my backyard (pictured). Can it take full sun? If so, how much? It's currently indoors with my cattleya's under my lighting setup. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

That looks like a very healthy plant. I have one mounted to the trunk of a very tall palm tree and it's not shaded. She's facing south and receives full E/SE exposure for about 7 hours daily. They love humidity and I recommend that you frequently spray or mist the roots...especially when it's hot and dry. If you experience cold winters you might have a problem keeping her outdoors. Mine got wrapped in a blanket when zone 9b temperatures dropped below 40 degrees. There were a few times when the temperatures dropped to just below freezing and the leaves were a little damaged despite being well covered. I'm not real pleased with my choice of mount. The Palm trunk might be too big or have the wrong texture. Instead of hugging, she's pushing herself away from it. I might switch her to a fern tree mount...haven't decided yet. She seems to be fairly happy though, and is getting ready to bloom.

Junebug,
Thank you for your reply! Your help is most greatly appreciated!
I live in north central West Virginia (zone 6a). I would most certainly have to bring her in during winter times. Is there any advice you could give me on taking care of her indoors? She has been hanging under my light setup I use for my cattleya's. I've been watering her daily using very light fertilizer and spritzing the roots.
Again, thank you so much for your help! I greatly appreciate it!

Thank you for your reply cb977! I really appreciate it! I water it daily using light fertilizer and allow to dry out between waterings. I have also been spritzing the roots. Do I need to be giving it more water, or am I on the right track?
Thanks again!!!

Hey, I've got relatives living near Hinton. Any last name Harveys, Lilly's, or Upton's in you family chain?
I'm not experienced with artificial lighting, but you might need a little more than required by Cattleyas. There are other board members who successfully grow Vandaceous varieties indoors. They're suggestions would be of greater value. Keep checking the posts. They should chime in soon.
