I feel concerned by this thread because i have a schilleriana var purpurea. It looks like yours small but has bloomed once..one year and a half ago!!!since then nothing happened...recently i tried water culture but the little devil doesn't react more than with anything I tried before. Still has three leaves...and three roots

Sounds like a good old Phalaenopsis to me!

As long as either roots or leaves are growing, flowers will eventually come. There are tricks to get them to bloom...

Hi Louise,

I would try potting it and then water with luke warm water each time you water. You may also try some KLN or superthrive.

I had one which did not grow any new roots (and had only two ex-arial ones) which stayed that way for over six months.

When I started watering it with luke warm water (or maybe slightly warmer) it started growing new roots and has been growing new ones for the last six months (not particularly quickly but they are growing).

I also started using KLN about 2 weeks later but I had already seen new root growth by that point so I'm not certain if it has helped or not.

King, I thought Louise was saying the roots and leaves were not growing either.

I'm aware that's what she may have meant.

At the same time there was a bit of room for interpretation. Three leaves...,obviously not growing any new leaves. But three roots doesn't mean the three roots aren't growing in length...see what I mean.

I've had Phals do nothing for a year myself (and by this I mean nothing grew). And after a while, they start movin' along.

Louise can try your method and see if things get moving. A little luke warm water won't hurt it.

After all, it does come from Luzon, Phillipines. When it rains, sometimes the water IS luke warm. From what I remember of rain from Indonesia when I was there (a neighboring country to the Phillipines), the rain water was luke warm.

I also don't foresee any dormancy in Phal stuartiana.

Thanks Rosie and King !
In fact yes, the roots are the same since nearly two years (three roots) and a third leaf appeared a few month ago but grows slowly and is thin...It's funny because i have other phals (species and hybrids )and this is the only one that i don't "understand"!
It does not proggress but doen't regress eitherso i can try luke warm water
I have tried superthrive, spagnum, bark, more light, less light, hot, temperate and cold temperatures...the only thing I didn't try is to throw it in the dustbin

Yeah, I interpreted it one way and you another

This way Louise gets answers to both interpretations which can only be good.

I fully agree with your first answer, if either roots or leaves are growing it can only be good. Also if the three roots are quite short then it would be best to not worry about flowers just yet and concentrate on getting growth in the plant or roots, as you said "flowers will eventually come".

If you have had some growth from the leaves then that is a good sign, and I always think that not regressing is good as well.

Give the lukewarm water a try, it seems to have prompted a couple of mine in to root growth which were not doing anything before.

Try looking up the climate and rainy seasons to Luzon, Phillipines. There might be an answer there too.
