Bulbophyllum with green splotches on leaves
Default Bulbophyllum with green splotches on leaves

I recently purchased a "pot" of bulbophyllums from a warehouse in Fla. There are lots of Bulbos. Some of the leaves have a light green splotchy covering. Anyone have an idea what it could be? Too much heat? Too much water? No pests that I can see. Bulbos look healthy. I posted pictures in my (first) album. Hopefully, the setting is correct for viewing. Suggestions, please!!!! Thanks.

Can you post a pic on the thread instead?

My first guess would be that it's algae.

Sometimes plants will get areas of different coloration when there has been a drastic change in the fertilizer, especially if there was a deficiency to start with.

If it is an algae, how do you control it? Is it a bad thing? I must have at least a dozen bulbos in this pot...not all of them are discolored.

Could be powdery mildew.

I'd wipe that stuff off.

You can use isopropyl alcohol and rub it off with a paper towel. For the tough to reach areas you can use a Q-tip.

Don't let the alcohol drip onto the roots. And definitely don't dump the stuff onto the plant.

Wow! It worked. I put alcohol on a paper towel and wiped 3 leaves with it and, of course, the paper towel turned green!!!! I'll have to do some research about what causes powdery mildew. Many, many thanks for your help!!!! McLyle

Isn't powdery mildew more of a blue/gray color? If it wiped off green, I'd go with the algae.
