Default Yesterday's haul!

Yesterday I visited my parents and afterwards I went to 2 small local plant shops. You'll never know what you find, isn't it? Actually, I didn't plan to buy orchids (hmmm, why didn't I want to leave without purse? ). OK, I didn't want to buy *3* orchids!

I had problems choosing as they had so manny hybrids I liked! But it turned out better. One of the hybrids is a primary hybrid between Phal. schilleriana and Phal. stuartiana.

Here she is!

She is my first mottled leafed Phal... and what've read it should be scented. Couldn't detect any smell yet. It's offical name is Phal. Wiganiae.

Now imagine, there is a rack with orchids and you can't choose? Buy 1 or 2?

It didn't took long to realize Phal. Wiganiae needed some company and I allowed this baby to jump in my basket. A beautiful NOID.

And there was that sad looking purple Phal, with small to medium flowers, sitting in very dry moss... wait... those flowers are too cute, despite it's another purple Phal. Hmmm, small gracious flowers, on a branching stem... only Euro 4.95

And it jumped in my basket too... that makes three - and I don't know what would have happened if I was able to bike with 4 orchids ;-)

So, now I feel bad because I told myself not to buy more orchids before I finished my artificial light project

After I came home I had to check the roots and the medium they were potted in. At least one was in 100% moss. Those roots were not very good, but also not too bad... The other two orchids had an amazingly good root system. I had even to up-pot one of them. It had so many roots that it pushed itself out of the pot, like Cym's can do.

And here they are, drying up side down, after I cleaned up the roots. I had to share this picture because I thought it's too funny.
Not only I dry my laundry on a rack sometimes to increase humidity , I also use a rack to dry orchids
