My Paphiopedilum grows strangely
Hello,
thanks for your perfect forum! I have a question - my Paphiopedilum does not make a leaf rosette but grows up and it has something like new roots on its stern (see its photos) Please what can I do to make it "standard"? Thanks a lot for your advice!!! marmar

How often are you watering it, and how much light is it getting?

That's a strange form indeed... Do you have the name of the species or is it an hybrid ?

That is strange indeed! Are you using any kind of additive to your water, such as SuperThrive or KLN?

I think that it is a hybrid (I bought it in a shop only with note "Paphiopedilum" and it was nearly past blossom and in a bad condition but I wanted to save it ... so it make a new slip but not very nice as you can see ...

I use a fertilizer (very small concentration in every retting - I use demineralized water and c. once per 2 weeks in watering recommended grist), there is a growth regulator in this fertilizer. I use this fertilizer for other Paphiopedilums too and they are normal ...

That's TOO weird. And is that a Ludisia discolor in the background doing the same thing? When plants get gangly, it's often due to insufficient light- that would be my first guess. Paphs need a good deal of indirect light, more than phals.

yes, it is a Ludisia discolor but it has less light than a paph - this paph is in fact on a shelf close to the window (but there is not direct light) and next to this one is another paph and it grows very well and looks like it could bloom soon. I will try to find another place and we will see ... thanks!!!

i think your paph is a hybrid with some parents in the barbata group. i was told they tend to climb and grow vertical when they do not get enough light and/or not enough humidity.
