Default Question about Leptotes bicolor bud sheaths

Hi all... My Leptotes bicolor has been putting out little nubbiny buddy sheaths from the bases of leaves, where the leaves are grooved. But they've been doing this for a while now, some since January. They seem to gradually get bigger and more plump, but still are just at the leaf bases.

I guess my questions are: is this 'chid generally slow to put out buds? If the nubbins sheath over, does that mean they won't bloom? What should I be looking for to show progress? Probably, I just need to be more patient. But I don't really have any idea of what to expect in terms of the Leptotes habits.

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated!

I'm not sure what your Leptotes bicolor is doing.

When I had a Leptotes pohli-tinocoi it formed the sheaths and just developed buds that burst through it while it was green and proceeded to bloom pretty quickly and easily. From bud to flower it only took about a couple of weeks give or take a few days. They're not slow to bloom like Phalaenopsis or many other orchids are.

I know Leptotes pohli-tinocoi is not Leptotes bicolor, but I imagine it performs similarly.

My Leptotes Bicolor has put up buds but they have grown quite long and the 3 buds came out of a sheath (I thought I only had one at first) it has been in bud/sheath since I got it roughly 6 weeks ago and still has not opened the blooms but it is green and healthy looking though the buds are not particuarly fat yet. I cannot say I know what I am talking about with this species just the one I have is doing the above.

Yvan

I don't know when mine started forming buds but I first noticed them the end of Nov. and the blooms opened later part of April. This is typical behavior for mine. After a few years it has settled into a pattern of blooming in April. Below is a link to the photo. Leptotes pohlitinicoi on the other hand opened the buds in a few weeks.

Hi Yvan! I too have the same thing going on. When I first received a year or two ago, it had a couple of nubbin sheaths that didn't do anything that year, they turned brown and I thought they were dead. But then the following year those actually bloomed for me plus it bloomed on that years new growth. This year I have the same thing again as when I received it....brown little nubbins. I was thinking maybe I wasn't giving it enough water since it is mounted and that is why the nubbins turned brown. I can't figure out what's going on so I've just given up on trying to guess what it's going to do...lol.

Thanks all! I guess I just need to be a little more patient and continue to wait and see what happens. Nice to know others have experienced the same thing. Keeping my fingers crossed!
